Grace Baby, Grace

The Gift of A Word of Wisdom

So often, we look at our salvation as a gift from God to give us eternal life, and it absolutely is! But it is so much more than that. Have you ever heard the phrase, “saved to serve?” From the moment of our acceptance of God’s grace until our death, God has work for us to do.

And, He doesn’t expect us to do His work blindly. God gives each of us one or more spiritual gifts to equip us for this work. He doesn’t give us these gifts for us to stick them in the back of the closet like they are ugly sweaters from grandma; He gives us these gifts to build up and grow His church and bring others to Him.

I think that we miss the point about the supernatural gift of a word of wisdom because we mistakenly believe a supernatural gift must bring big, in-your-face, supernatural results. The supernatural gift of healing brings results no one can miss, right? So, it stands to reason that any other supernatural gift should be as obviously miraculous.

But, that’s not how this works; it’s not how God works. God does most of His work in what, on the surface, seem to be relatively insignificant moments. How can I say that with assurance? Because we have far more relatively insignificant moments in our lives than big, in-your-face, miraculous moments.

Don’t get me wrong, God can show up and show out, and there are times that He does. However, it’s those small moments, moments that we don’t even recognize at the time, that a word of wisdom – either directly to us or through someone else – can quietly change our lives.
